WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Jailed

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested yesterday and thereafter jailed without bail in sex assault claims investigation. News indicates that the thirty nine years old Assange capitulated to Scotland Yard to answer a warrant issued for his arrest by Sweden. He is wanted for inquiring after two women indicted him of having sex with them without a condom and without their consent while they were working as Swedish WikiLeaks volunteers. His lawyers however yesterday asserted that the allegations stem from rows "over consensual but unprotected sex" but established that the women made the assertions only after discovering out that Assange had sex with both.

During a court hearing in London, the WikiLeaks founder showed no reaction when the judge denied him a bail as he awaits an extradition hearing on the 14th December 2010. The bail was denied because the Judge indicated that Assange might escape if released from the custody. When asked by the judge if he will agree to be extradited Assange replied that he did not consent. In relation to his arrest WikiLeaks public relations representative Kristinn Hrafnsson maintained that Assange's seizure and the yesterday's resolution by both Visa and MasterCard to end dispensation of donations to the organization will not deter their operations. The spokesman further said that WikiLeaks had no arrangements yet to alter its plans on its warning to en bloc some of its most receptive U.S. documents if the organization comes under assail.

At the same time Assange's organization (WikiLeaks) released new batch of the secret cables which the United States officials described as damaging security relations worldwide. In addition, the government of the United States is investigating if Assange could be prosecuted for intelligence and other misdemeanors. This is because his organization has inflamed vehemence in Washington with its publications and it vowed to continue making open details of the 250,000 top secret U.S. documents it had acquired.
